Flemings Mayfair, whose landmark property occupies one of London's most elite postcodes, has undertaken a complete renovation and redesign of its three-bedroom townhouse, drawing inspiration from Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.

Originally built in the 1730s, Half Moon Street is now one of London's most luxurious addresses. However, in the 1880s, Victorian London was a much more colourful and bohemian area, where many 'confirmed bachelors' lived and socialised. The Gannon Apartments at 14 Half Moon Street were among half a dozen bachelor apartments in the area, providing accommodation for young, single male tenants seeking to advance their careers and fortunes in London.
The Gannon Apartments were popular with young men-about-town as they were directly adjacent to Flemings Hotel at No. 10, run by Robert Fleming. At the time, the hotel also featured a tavern that Wilde frequented. All of Wilde's real-life experiences in and around Half Moon Street contributed to this, his most comedy play The Importance of Being Earnest.
Designed by Tully Filmer Ltd, the suite now merges 18th-century elegance with modern sophistication. Bold colours, rich textures, and curated literary accents create an immersive experience that pays tribute to Wilde's wit and the storied past of the area.

"We set out to reimagine the suite as a captivating space that not only celebrates Wilde's legacy but also offers our guests an experience that is both historically rich and beautifully contemporary," said Henrik Muehle, Managing Director of Flemings Mayfair.
The newly renovated three-bedroom suite is located in The Townhouse, one of the 13 townhouses that comprise Flemings Mayfair. Guests staying in The Townhouse enjoy the benefits of a private residence in Mayfair, while still enjoying the hotel's full services and amenities.
Flemings Mayfair is one of the few remaining independent, privately owned hotels in London, having been in the same family for over 40 years. It is also one of the capital's oldest establishments, having opened its doors in 1851. Part of both Historic Hotels Worldwide and the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, the award-winning hotel offers unrivalled luxury accommodation, just moments from Green Park and Buckingham Palace.
To mark the renovations and pay homage to Oscar Wilde, guests will receive a copy of the play during turndown service, inviting them to connect with the literary inspiration behind the suite.
