Parterre Perfume Workshops & Escapes Unveiled at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa

Five-star, two Michelin-Key The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa in Bath has partnered with new local perfumery Parterre to launch a Jane Austen-inspired perfume workshop and themed afternoon tea, as well as overnight sensory escapes and private masterclasses throughout the year. Focusing on botanical scents and using the highest quality oils, Parterre create fragrances that evoke the countryside and nature at its best, and hotel guests can now cultivate their very own personal perfume as a memento of their time in Bath.
Jane Austen Perfume Workshop & Afternoon Tea
To celebrate Jane Austen 250 - the 250th anniversary of the renowned novelist’s birth - on Sunday 18th May, guests are invited to an informative and immersive workshop with perfume experts Parterre, held in the elegant surroundings of the Sheridan Suite, followed by a Jane Austen themed afternoon tea in the stylish Montagu’s Mews restaurant, bringing the flavour of Regency England to life.
During the workshop, attendees will learn about the history of scents, including an imagining of the popular fragrances of the Austen era, and even create their own signature scent using Parterre’s natural botanical extracts. Hosted by a master perfumer from Parterre, guests will be encouraged to discover the fascinating history of scent from the Roman era through to the Georgians and beyond, through savouring the aromas of the ingredients, oils and perfumes used throughout history, learning who wore perfume and how it was made.
Following the workshop, guests will be served a delicious afternoon tea with a nod to Jane Austen, in the refined ambiance of the Library or if weather permits, the stunning and idyllic gardens of the Royal Crescent Hotel. Incorporating classics such as smoked salmon, cream cheese and chive finger sandwiches, alongside renowned local treats such as the Bath bun, diners will indulge like Austen-era patrons and get a taste of Regency life.
The Historic Perfume Workshop & Afternoon takes place Sunday 18th May 2025, at 2pm, and costs £109.00 per person or £125.00 with a glass of Tattinger champagne.
A Fragrant Escape & Private Masterclasses
Between 6th May and 23rd December, guests will also be able to book a private perfume masterclass with Parterre, tailored to their own preferences and knowledge level. Designed to be entertaining, fun and informal, the masterclasses can be added on to any stay, and will take place in Parterre’s perfumery just steps from the hotel. Guests will learn about the skilled art of perfumery, the olfactory families, natural ingredients, and the way in which different ‘notes’ work together to form a balanced and deliciously smelling composition. At the end of the workshop, guests will have created their own creation and personal scent, with a 50ml bottle to take away with them.
A Private Perfume Masterclass with Parterre costs £320 for 2 guests for a two and a half hour workshop and 50 ml fragrance bottle.
For those looking for a more extensive experience, the new Fragrant Escape in partnership with Parterre combines a luxurious overnight stay with the private masterclass. Kicking off their sensory journey, guests will be welcomed with a refreshing botanical cocktail, followed by a four-course dinner in Montagu’s Mews. The next day, guests will head over to Parterre for an exclusive visit and masterclass, and can choose to finish their stay with a visit to the Spa & Bath House and a GROUND ritual spa treatment, to complete the sensory journey.
A Fragrant Escape costs from £1,230 for 2 people, including overnight stay on a B&B basis, private masterclass & 50 ml fragrance bottle, 4 course dinner, and unlimited use of the Spa & Bath House.
